"Organic Clothing Made Available for Everyone"

Author: Robert Riles

Organic clothing, as the name suggests is made out of organic fibers

. Organic fibers are different from its conventional counterpart as it is grown without pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers. These fibers are dyed using eco friendly, low impact ink that is free from toxic chemicals. Therefore it is recognized as the healthy choice - healthy for the individual, healthy for the environment and healthy for the workers growing and harvesting them.

Organic clothing plays a major role in the indulgence of ethical fashion into the entire clothing industry. Eco-savvy fashions do not confine to just the reduction of post consumer refuse, instead it also refers to the pre-consumer waste and pollution. After the origin of it from farm or forest, the fibers spend some time transforming into the trendy clothes that we use. The irony is: fashion is ephemeral while fabric and pollution are not.

The question is, are these clothes available in the market? Yes it is! You can find market retail leaders like Nike and Patagonia who have turned their line by including organic cotton in their apparel line. They have also joined hands with the reputed designers like Katherin Hamnett and Loomstate to bring out the real hype in town. The same has also been adapted by other huge end designers like the Gap, L.L Bean, H & M as well as Levi’s which proves the increased availability and ease of organic clothing.

When it comes to putting them on many believe that organic cotton is softer and easier on your skin as there are no latent pesticides or other chemicals that might disagree with your skin. The extra comfort is an added bonus when considering all of the benefits for our planet and its people. Environmental fashion thus infuses comfort, style and inspirational artwork into clothes that uses environmentally sensitive fabrics and responsible production techniques.

Realistically, though, there aren’t enough hours for each of us to carry out the research needed to stay informed about all the products, companies and other issues. One of those helpful lighthouses is the Fair Trade label. Fair trade programs were designed to guarantee fair and stable prices, decent and safe working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and agricultural workers in developing countries.

Nowadays, the growing group of designers have started to work on some creative ideas by making using organic fabrics, reusing the old ones and unwanted textiles to bring out a new style or trend. London fashion is slowly marking the commencement of a new track, signboarding the future for us. In the words of Giffort Pinchot, “The purpose of conservation is the greatest good to the greatest number of people for the longest time”.

Let’s become informed, Shop ethically, Dress beautifully by wearing ethical clothes. In an age when we are ever conscious of the organic stamp on the fruits and vegetables we eat, it’s a bit surprising how little attention we pay to the nature of the clothes we use. Let us change the world by changing our clothes.

A former fashion design graduate from Central Saint Martins, Jane Goldsmith wanted to create an innovative and directional shop which specialized in Ethical Fashion
